Ha!

So I see my shameless plug for comments was completely defeated. What is left for this blog is a real life example of the tree falling in the forest. As for me and the band, well we have 7 shows coming up in the next 9 days, we've sold over 60 albums this Christmas season and we are generally having a fantastic time doing it. So there. I don't need comments, only food, water, air, shelter, and clothing most of the time. I can do without combinations of these for spells of time, but in the end I'm only human.

Six and a Half Months, No Comments

That's the kind of fan-base building we love to see here at the HTF blog. Okay, admittedly, we haven't been the best a posting frequently or even putting the word out about the blog/ourselves. Things are about to change. Jason has the audio for the album almost done, we have a title, and I am battling a serious case of album art work block.

Other than that, everything is on track for this to be a fantastic holiday season. Our second practice session went great, with Jason's daughter commenting that it "sounds like a REAL concert." I must say, it is pretty amazing what that Rockbox cajon, four shakers, and a set of bells can do to fill out our sound.

Up next are some street shows, living room shows, barn shows, and whatever else kind of show we can line up. Only three more days until we can start officially saying "Merry Christmas!"

p.s. In a thinly veiled attempt to procure a comment, the first person who responds to this post will receive from me an unreleased HTF demo track of one of our songs.

Photo Time

After our final studio sessions we put on our best "blue steel" faces and snapped some photos. Some of these feel a bit like they are of an 80's British new wave group. I can't quite decide if that is awesome or weird. Also, I only ever stand or sit on Jason's right hand side. Also, I only have one "serious" look. You get to see it five times here.

Crunch Time

This Friday Herod the Fink will enter the studio for the final recording session of the year. We hope to finish a song already in progress as well as record two new songs. It is a lot to ask, but we plan on working into the wee morning hours, then wake up Saturday and finish / polish any of the songs that need attention. Can't wait.

The Dawn Will Come

Live from the home office, Jesse performs a song about trials, faith, and endurance. It has been suggested that this could be included on the new album. Time will tell. (We are running out of time to add new songs to the mix.)

Next Recording Session: June 19th

We should be finishing up the acoustic "On This Silent Night" as well as polishing up some other songs. Can't wait for this session, it will be a great time as always.

Evolving

If there's one constant in this process of writing an album, it is change. Jason and I have been trying to nail down some general concepts and themes to shoot for, and I think we are generally on course with what we have in mind. It might be interesting to start documenting specific songs as they develop. Most of the newer ones have working titles, so I suppose the first step is naming unnamed songs so it doesn't get confusing to look back on. Overall I'd say musically the main influences I can hear are folk, old gospel, and old punk.
